Use Screen Time for a basic limit, Downtime for scheduled hours, or an iPhone app blocker if the habit is reopening Coinbase to check a price or balance, without deleting your account.

You can block Coinbase on iPhone without deleting your account. Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a dedicated blocker when the pattern is reopening the app repeatedly, not one long session. Each method restricts access differently, so match the tool to the actual habit. This page is about the checking pattern, not investment advice.
Coinbase shows a live balance and price movement the instant you open it. Combined with price alerts that can prompt another look right after you close the app, that makes a quick glance easy to repeat many times across a day. A daily time limit rarely catches this, since each check-in is short even when there are a dozen of them.
1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
2. Select Coinbase. Choose the app, tap Next, set the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting Coinbase on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.
3. Watch how the limit actually gets used. A 10-minute allowance spent across a dozen 30-second glances never feels like it triggers the way one long session would. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen once the allowance runs out, but an App Limit can be ignored by default.
Check that the App Limit applies to Coinbase itself. Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, tap the rule, and confirm Coinbase is selected and the days are correct.
Do not confuse an override with a failed limit. If you see an Ignore Limit option, the limit has triggered as designed. See how to stop ignoring Screen Time limits if tapping through has become automatic.
Count check-ins, not minutes. If you open Coinbase more than a handful of separate times a day, frequency is the thing worth restricting, not session length.
Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This suits a checking habit better than a time limit, since it removes the app entirely during the hours you keep reaching for it, such as work hours or overnight.
Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed remain available, so review that list if Coinbase is not behaving as expected.
Focus Mode does not stop Coinbase from opening. It can reduce notifications and visual cues, but it does not block the app itself.
| Approach | Good for | Weak point |
|---|---|---|
| Delete Coinbase | Removes immediate access on this iPhone. | Loses convenient access to your own account setup; most people don't want this. |
| Screen Time app limit | Basic limits and awareness. | Measures total time, not the number of times you reopen the app, and you can choose Ignore Limit. |
| Fella | Blocking Coinbase by default between windows. | Built for one 5-minute emergency unlock per session, not open-ended checking. |
A dedicated blocker is useful when the habit is repeated checking rather than one long session. Because each glance is short, a daily time limit rarely triggers before the pattern repeats. A default-off rule removes the option to open the app between the windows you choose, which addresses the checking habit directly. If you're still comparing options, see our iPhone app-blocking options.
With Fella, add Coinbase to the apps you want blocked. It stays unavailable by default while the apps you did not select remain accessible.
Use the emergency unlock only for a specific need. Each blocking session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough time to check something specific. When the five minutes end, Coinbase locks again automatically.
That is the trade-off. Fella is for stronger friction against the checking habit itself, not flexible daily minutes, and it has no opinion on what you hold or trade.
People who open Coinbase many times a day just to glance at a balance or price. If your Screen Time report shows a low average session length but a high number of opens, that's the pattern Fella is built to interrupt.
People who still need occasional access. The emergency unlock gives you a window to check something specific without leaving the app reachable all day.
People who've already tried app limits. If "Ignore Limit" became automatic, or the limit never triggers because each visit is too short, a harder default is the next step.
Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a focused app blocker like Fella to keep Coinbase blocked by default with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
No. Fella only blocks access to the app on your iPhone. It does not touch your account, your holdings, or anything inside Coinbase, and you can still reach it during your one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Coinbase shows a live balance and price movement every time you open it, and price alerts can prompt you to check again right after you close it. That combination makes a quick glance easy to repeat many times a day, which is a habit of frequency, not a single long session.
Yes. Use App Limits for a daily allowance, or Downtime for scheduled hours. A reached App Limit can be ignored by default and measures total time, not how often you reopen the app. Fella is a narrower blocker with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Yes. You choose which apps Fella blocks. Coinbase can be on your list while other apps you rely on stay fully accessible.
It can reduce prompts to open the app, but you can still open Coinbase directly from Search or the App Library whenever you want. Muting notifications is not the same as blocking access.
