The group chat can wait
until morning.

A Fella routine locks WhatsApp at the same time every night and holds until morning, so the decision to stop happens once, when you set it up, instead of every night in bed.

For a lot of people, late-night WhatsApp isn't one important message, it's a group chat, Status updates, or Channels that could all wait until morning. If that's the pattern and the rest of your phone is fine, a routine scoped to just WhatsApp is simpler than blocking everything. Be honest with yourself first, though: WhatsApp is often how people actually reach you, so this is worth setting up carefully rather than on reflex.

Who this is actually for

This fits people whose nighttime WhatsApp use is drift, not urgency. Checking one message and ending up in a group chat, Status posts, or Channels you didn't plan to read. It does not fit someone who genuinely relies on WhatsApp as their main line for anything time-sensitive overnight; blocking it there means missing those messages until the block ends or you use the emergency unlock.

One app, one nightly routine

Select WhatsApp on its own and set the start time to whenever you actually want to be off it, and the end time to whenever you get up. The routine begins the session on its own, so there is nothing to open once you're already in bed.

Everything else on your phone stays untouched, including Phone, Messages, your alarm, and anything else you might reach for at night.

A real exception, not an open door

Each session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough to check and reply to something that actually can't wait. When the five minutes end, WhatsApp locks again automatically for the rest of the night rather than staying open for whatever comes next.

If it's more than just WhatsApp

If other apps are part of the same bedtime pattern, not just WhatsApp, see our broader block apps while sleeping page, or stop scrolling at night for the behavior side of why this happens. For blocking WhatsApp beyond bedtime too, see how to block WhatsApp on iPhone.
