The chat can wait
until morning.

A Fella routine locks Messenger at the same time every night and holds until morning, so the decision to stop happens once, when you set it up, instead of every night in bed.

For a lot of people, late-night Messenger isn't one important conversation, it's several open threads that could all wait until morning. If that's the pattern and the rest of your phone is fine, a routine scoped to just Messenger is simpler than blocking everything. Be honest with yourself first, though: Messenger is often how people actually reach you, so this is worth setting up carefully rather than on reflex.

Who this is actually for

This fits people whose nighttime Messenger use is drift, not urgency. Checking one thread and ending up scrolling through several others long past when you meant to stop. It does not fit someone who genuinely relies on Messenger as their main line for anything time-sensitive overnight; blocking it there means missing those messages until the block ends or you use the emergency unlock.

Marketplace chats route through Messenger too. If you're actively selling or buying something, blocking Messenger blocks that access along with everything else in the app.

One app, one nightly routine

Select Messenger on its own and set the start time to whenever you actually want to be off it, and the end time to whenever you get up. The routine begins the session on its own, so there is nothing to open once you're already in bed.

Keep Phone or Messages available and let close contacts know to use that route for anything urgent overnight, the same as you would for any messaging app you block.

A real exception, not an open door

Each session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough to check and reply to something that actually can't wait. When the five minutes end, Messenger locks again automatically for the rest of the night rather than staying open for whatever comes next.

If it's more than just Messenger

If other apps are part of the same bedtime pattern, not just Messenger, see our broader block apps while sleeping page, or stop scrolling at night for the behavior side of why this happens. For blocking Messenger beyond bedtime too, see how to block Messenger on iPhone.
