Does Fella use a VPN to block apps?

No. Fella's blocking mechanism does not use a VPN. It does not create a VPN profile, route your connection through a Fella server, or inspect network requests to decide whether an app may open.

The restriction is applied by iOS instead. After you approve 屏幕使用时间 access and choose the apps that distract you, Fella uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to apply and schedule the block.

That distinction is narrow but important. No VPN explains how Fella enforces app access. It does not mean the whole app is offline or that Fella uses no subscription, analytics, or diagnostics services.

为什么选择无需 VPN 的应用屏蔽器?

You may already use a VPN for something else. A work VPN, privacy VPN, or security tool can have its own connection profile and settings. Because Fella does not take over the VPN layer, you do not have to choose between that connection and Fella's app blocking.

App access and network filtering are different jobs. If your goal is to stop opening Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, shopping, gaming, or news apps, the useful control is whether iOS allows the selected app to open—not where its internet traffic goes.

There is less network plumbing to explain. Fella's blocking rule is an iPhone restriction, not a remote allow-or-deny decision on every request. The product stays focused on selected-app access rather than presenting itself as a privacy VPN or web-security service.

StepWhat happens
1You grant Apple's 屏幕使用时间 authorization
2You choose the apps or categories that distract you
3You start a manual session or create a recurring routine
4Managed Settings applies Apple's system app shield
5Device Activity starts and ends scheduled blocking intervals

Fella 如何在 iPhone 上屏蔽应用

The block happens at the app-access layer. When you try to open a selected app during an active session, iOS shows Fella's shield instead. Fella does not need to identify and interrupt the app's individual network requests.

Useful apps remain available. You choose what to restrict. Calls, messages, maps, banking, work tools, and anything else you leave unselected can continue working normally. See the complete Fella app-blocking flow.

无 VPN 屏蔽改变了什么——以及没有改变什么

Fella does not inspect your traffic to enforce the block. The core restriction comes from Apple's 屏幕使用时间 frameworks. Fella is not reading URLs, filtering DNS queries, or passing app traffic through its own VPN endpoint as part of that enforcement path.

Fella still uses online services. RevenueCat supports subscriptions, optional account services support connected features, PostHog provides product analytics, and Sentry provides diagnostics. Those services can communicate over the network even though app blocking itself is not VPN-based.

No VPN is not a blanket privacy promise. It answers one technical question: how the restriction is applied. For the complete data picture, read the Privacy Policy and Fella's privacy philosophy.

Fella 能与你实际的 VPN 一起工作吗?

Yes. Fella does not occupy the iPhone's VPN connection. Its app shields use 屏幕使用时间 controls, so a separate VPN can remain connected for work, privacy, or remote network access while Fella restricts the apps you selected.

The two tools affect different layers. Your VPN handles network traffic. Fella handles whether a selected app can be opened during a blocking session. Fella does not configure, disable, monitor, or troubleshoot the third-party VPN.

A VPN can still affect online services. If its server, filtering rules, or connection has a problem, purchases, restores, account synchronization, analytics delivery, or other internet requests may be delayed. That does not turn the 屏幕使用时间 shield into VPN-based blocking.

无需流量隧道的排程

Fella routines start blocking automatically. Choose the days and times, select the distracting apps, and Fella registers the routine with Apple's Device Activity system. The iPhone can then start and end the shield at those times without maintaining a Fella VPN connection.

Manual sessions use the same enforcement method. Start a session whenever you need it and choose how long it runs. Apple sets a 15-minute minimum for the 屏幕使用时间 session interval; longer sessions and recurring routines can cover work, study, evenings, or weekends.

The dedicated scheduling guide goes deeper. See how to block apps at certain times on iPhone for setup and timing details.

One 紧急解锁. Then the block returns.

Every active session includes one five-minute 紧急解锁. Use it when you genuinely need quick access to a selected app. Fella temporarily removes the shield, counts down five minutes, and automatically applies the current block again when the window ends.

It does not switch a VPN on or off. 紧急解锁 changes the local app shield for that short window. Your separate VPN connection, if you use one, remains a separate system.

The limit stays predictable. A short manual session and a long scheduled routine both get one five-minute unlock per session. Read the full 紧急解锁 rules.

QuestionFella's 屏幕使用时间 approachVPN-based approach
What is controlled?Whether selected iPhone apps can openTraffic passing through the VPN or network filter
Where is the rule applied?Apple's on-device 屏幕使用时间 frameworksA VPN profile, tunnel, local filter, or remote network service
Does it occupy the VPN connection?NoUsually yes
Can another VPN stay connected?YesDepends on the tool and iOS VPN configuration
Can it filter general web traffic?Fella does not claim general web filteringPotentially, depending on the service
Does the core rule need traffic inspection?NoMay inspect destinations or requests, depending on implementation

屏幕使用时间 blocking versus VPN-based blocking

Neither architecture is automatically better for every job. VPN and DNS tools can be useful when the goal is website filtering, network security, remote access, or traffic routing. Fella is the clearer fit when the job is simply to keep selected iPhone apps unavailable for a defined session.

Compare products by their actual implementation. VPN-based blockers differ widely: some process traffic locally, some rely on remote servers, and some combine multiple methods. This page describes Fella's architecture, not every product that uses a VPN.

A focused blocker for selected apps

Fella is for app access, not network administration. Choose it if you want an iPhone app blocker that works through Apple's 屏幕使用时间 system, leaves the VPN layer alone, supports manual and scheduled sessions, and provides controlled emergency access.

Choose another tool when the network is the real target. If you need a corporate tunnel, country switching, malware filtering, DNS controls, or broad website blocking, use a service built for that job. Fella does not pretend app shielding replaces a VPN.

App blocker without VPN FAQ

No. Fella uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks. It does not route your traffic through a Fella VPN.

You grant 屏幕使用时间 permission and choose apps. During an active session, Apple's Managed Settings framework applies the system shield to those selected apps.

Yes. Fella does not create or occupy the iPhone's VPN connection, so its 屏幕使用时间 shields can operate while a separate VPN is connected.

Not to enforce app blocking. Fella applies iOS app-access restrictions instead of inspecting or filtering traffic through a VPN.

No. Subscriptions, optional account features, analytics, diagnostics, downloads, and updates can still use the internet. No VPN describes the blocking method.

Yes. Fella registers routines with Apple's Device Activity system, which starts and ends the selected-app shield without a Fella VPN connection.

No. Each active session includes one five-minute 紧急解锁. Fella removes the local app shield temporarily and reapplies it automatically when the five minutes end.

Core blocking can work offline after setup when required on-device permission, selection, and entitlement state are available. Purchases, restores, and surrounding online services still need connectivity. See the offline app blocker page for the exact boundaries.

Fella is built to block selected iPhone apps. It is not presented as a VPN, DNS filter, or general web-filtering service.
