← Every app Fella blocks

The position moves all day.
So does the urge to look.

A contract that has not settled yet has a price that keeps changing, which turns one decision into a feed you can check indefinitely. Fella blocks the Kalshi app by default and gives you one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.

Kalshi is a prediction market, not a sportsbook, and that distinction is real. It is a CFTC-regulated exchange where you trade event contracts that settle at one dollar or zero, on outcomes ranging from economic data to elections to sports. You are buying and selling contracts at a price, not taking fixed odds from a house.

That difference matters legally and it matters here, but not in the way people expect. If you are looking for a way to stop opening the app, the regulatory category is not what is holding you. This page is about the app on your phone, not about whether the product counts as gambling.

Why an open contract is harder to leave alone than a bet slip

A placed bet resolves when the event does. A Kalshi position has a price the whole time. Because contracts trade continuously, an unsettled position is marked at a visible number that moves all day, so there is always something new to look at. That is a checking loop a fixed-odds slip does not have.

Being able to exit early adds a second loop on top of the first. If you can sell before settlement, every price move becomes a live decision about whether to take it now. The question reopens itself every time you look, which is what makes it hard to put the phone down rather than hard to pick it up.

Short-dated markets compress the gap between acting and finding out. When a contract resolves in hours rather than months, the interval between a decision and its outcome shrinks toward the pattern that makes any of these products difficult to use occasionally.

The trading frame makes it easier to justify opening

“It is a regulated exchange, not betting” is accurate, and it is also the sentence that gets the app opened. A product that reads as research or investing clears an internal bar that a sportsbook does not, which is why people who deleted betting apps sometimes keep this one installed.

This is the same pattern we describe on Robinhood, where the underlying product is genuinely investing and the checking behaviour still looks familiar. The test worth applying is not what the product is classified as, but how often you open it and whether you can say why.

Notifications work on that frame too. A price alert presents itself as information you needed rather than a prompt to open the app. Turning them off in Settings > Notifications > Kalshi is a separate step from blocking, and worth doing either way.

Blocking Kalshi with Fella

Apple's Screen Time can limit Kalshi for free, and it is worth trying first. Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, add a limit, turn on Block at End of Limit. The gap is the Ignore Limit button, which clears the limit in one tap at the exact moment a position is moving. We cover that on ignoring Screen Time limits.

Fella runs on the same Apple frameworks without that button. Kalshi stays blocked for the whole session rather than until you dismiss a screen, and each session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock. Everything you do not select stays available.

Block the set, not the single app. If sportsbooks or other trading apps are still installed, blocking Kalshi alone usually relocates the habit. The gambling app blocker page covers choosing that full set, and a routine can start the session automatically if the pattern is time-based: see app blocking with schedules.

What blocking Kalshi does not do

It does not touch your account. Nothing is closed, restricted or logged out, and your balance, trade history and settings are unchanged.

It does not place, cancel or settle anything. Fella cannot trade on your behalf. Open contracts settle on their own terms, deposits and withdrawals are unaffected, and no funds move because an app is blocked.

It does mean you cannot watch or exit a position from the app during a session. That is worth planning around rather than discovering. The 5-minute emergency unlock exists for exactly this, and blocking from a flat position avoids the conflict entirely.

It does not cover the website. Fella blocks apps, not browsers. To close kalshi.com as well, add it to Never Allow using Screen Time Web Content restrictions.
