10pm means 10pm.
Not whenever you feel like it.

A Fella routine locks the apps you choose at a fixed clock time every night, whatever time you actually go to sleep, so there's no moment where you have to decide the cutoff has arrived.

A bedtime-based block only works once you've decided you're going to bed, and that decision is exactly where things fall apart. A fixed-time cutoff skips that decision entirely. It doesn't matter if you feel like keeping going at 9:58; at 10pm the apps lock regardless. That's a different mechanism from a routine timed to "whenever I go to sleep," and for some people it's the one that actually holds.

Set the clock time once

Build a routine with a fixed start time, 10pm or whatever hour you pick, and select the apps you want locked from that point on. Set the end time to whenever you wake up, and the routine starts and ends on those exact hours automatically.

Pick the days it applies to. A fixed cutoff doesn't have to run every night; weeknights only, or every day, whichever matches your actual week.

Why a fixed time beats a bedtime-based one for some people

A bedtime-based routine still requires a decision. "I'll block it when I go to sleep" quietly becomes "in a few more minutes," because going to sleep is a fuzzy, negotiable moment. A fixed clock time isn't negotiable in the same way: 10pm arrives whether or not you're ready to admit you should stop.

It also creates a consistent signal independent of how the day went. A late dinner, a long call, a delayed wind-down routine, none of it moves the cutoff. The apps lock at the same time regardless.

Still reachable for anything real

Leave Phone, Messages, and your alarm off the blocked list entirely, so those keep working exactly as normal past 10pm. For the one time something genuinely can't wait, each session includes a single 5-minute emergency unlock, then the selected apps lock again automatically.

If a personal bedtime fits better

Not everyone wants a fixed clock time. If your actual bedtime shifts night to night and you'd rather the block track that instead, see our block apps while sleeping page, which covers the same mechanism framed around your own sleep schedule rather than a fixed hour. For a full weekly pattern across different days, see building a weekly blocking schedule.
