Use Screen Time for a basic limit, Downtime for scheduled access, or an iPhone app blocker when finding one track turns into an open-ended discovery session, without deleting your account.

You can block SoundCloud on iPhone without deleting your account. Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a dedicated blocker when SoundCloud needs to stay unavailable by default. Each method restricts access differently, so choose the smallest one that closes the loophole you actually have.
SoundCloud pulls you further than a straightforward music player does. Related tracks, comments left by other listeners on specific moments in a track, and reposts from people you follow give it a discovery-feed structure closer to a social app than a playlist. Opening it to find one specific song can easily turn into following a chain of "you might also like" recommendations.
1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
2. Select SoundCloud. Open the Music or Entertainment category, select SoundCloud, tap Next, choose the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting SoundCloud on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.
3. Know what happens when the limit is reached. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen, but an App Limit can be ignored by default. That matters here specifically, since a related-tracks queue can carry you well past the limit before you've consciously decided to keep listening.
Check that the App Limit applies to SoundCloud itself. Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, tap the rule, and confirm SoundCloud is selected and the days are correct. A category limit can behave differently from a limit on one specific app.
Do not confuse an override with a failed limit. If you see an Ignore Limit option, the limit has triggered as designed. It is an expected iPhone override, not proof the app was never restricted. See how to stop ignoring Screen Time limits if that override has become automatic for you.
Check the workaround you are actually using. Muting notifications or hiding the icon doesn't block SoundCloud. If similar discovery browsing happens on another music app, that app needs its own separate restriction.
Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This works well for a work block or study session, when a related-tracks rabbit hole is most likely to eat into time you meant to spend elsewhere.
Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed can remain available, so review that list if SoundCloud is not behaving as expected.
Focus Mode is not a SoundCloud blocker. Focus can silence notifications and reduce visual cues; it does not stop you opening the app directly.
| Approach | Good for | Weak point |
|---|---|---|
| Delete SoundCloud | Removes immediate access on this iPhone. | Loses your uploads, likes, and following list. |
| Screen Time app limit | Basic limits and awareness. | You can choose Ignore Limit, especially mid-way through a related-tracks queue. |
| Fella | Blocking SoundCloud by default. | Built for one 5-minute emergency unlock per session, not open-ended access. |
A dedicated blocker is useful when a quick song search reliably turns into a longer discovery session. Because SoundCloud's related-tracks feed and comments give it more to explore than a simple music player, a default-off rule doesn't rely on you catching yourself mid-scroll. If you are still choosing a tool, see our iPhone app-blocking options.
With Fella, add SoundCloud to the apps you want blocked. It stays unavailable by default while the apps you did not select remain accessible.
Use the emergency unlock only for a practical need. Each blocking session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough time to find and play a specific track. When the five minutes end, SoundCloud locks again automatically.
That is the trade-off. Fella is for stronger friction, not flexible schedules, content filtering, or a way to check uploads while staying blocked from the discovery feed.
People who open SoundCloud for one specific track and end up in a related-tracks queue an hour later. If discovery browsing routinely replaces a quick listen, that's the pattern Fella is built to interrupt.
People who still need to check their own uploads or a specific artist's page. The emergency unlock gives you a window to do that without leaving the app open and reachable all day.
People who've already tried app limits. If "Ignore Limit" became a habit of its own, a harder default is the next step.
Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a focused app blocker like Fella to keep SoundCloud blocked by default with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
No. Fella blocks access to the app on your iPhone. Your account, uploads, and likes are untouched, and you can still reach them during your one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Not exactly. SoundCloud's structure leans more toward discovery, related tracks, comments, and reposts from other users, which can turn a quick listen into an open-ended browsing session, closer to a social feed than a straightforward music player.
Yes. Use App Limits for a daily allowance, or Downtime for scheduled hours. A reached App Limit can be ignored by default. Fella is a narrower blocker with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Yes. You choose which apps Fella blocks. SoundCloud can be on your list while other apps you rely on stay fully accessible.
No. Hiding an app changes where its icon appears, and muting notifications removes alerts. You can still open SoundCloud from Search or the App Library unless you use an App Limit, Downtime, or an app blocker.
Delete the app, then go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Installing Apps and set it to Don't Allow. This blocks new App Store installs system-wide, including SoundCloud, until you turn it back on with your Screen Time passcode.
