Use Screen Time for a basic limit, Downtime for scheduled access, or an iPhone app blocker when clicking through to one image turns into browsing the whole front page, without deleting your account.

You can block Imgur on iPhone without deleting your account. Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a dedicated blocker when Imgur needs to stay unavailable by default. Each method restricts access differently, so choose the smallest one that closes the loophole you actually have.
Imgur often gets opened by accident, not intent. A link from Reddit or another app can drop you straight into the Imgur app to view one specific image, and from there the front page and trending galleries are one tap away. What starts as viewing a single linked picture can turn into browsing an entire feed you never meant to open.
1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
2. Select Imgur. Open the Entertainment or Social Networking category, select Imgur, tap Next, choose the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting Imgur on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.
3. Know what happens when the limit is reached. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen, but an App Limit can be ignored by default. That's an easy override to dismiss here, since you may not have consciously chosen to open the app in the first place, following a link doesn't feel like the moment to stop and reconsider.
Check that the App Limit applies to Imgur itself. Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, tap the rule, and confirm Imgur is selected and the days are correct. A category limit can behave differently from a limit on one specific app.
Do not confuse an override with a failed limit. If you see an Ignore Limit option, the limit has triggered as designed. It is an expected iPhone override, not proof the app was never restricted. See how to stop ignoring Screen Time limits if that override has become automatic for you.
Check the actual path images take to reach you. If a link from Reddit or another app opens the image inside that app's own in-app browser rather than launching Imgur itself, blocking the Imgur app won't restrict that view, it's a separate surface with its own boundary.
Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This works well for a work block or study session, when a single clicked link is most likely to expand into an unplanned browsing detour.
Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed can remain available, so review that list if Imgur is not behaving as expected.
Focus Mode is not an Imgur blocker. Focus can silence notifications and reduce visual cues; it does not stop the app from opening if a link launches it.
| Approach | Good for | Weak point |
|---|---|---|
| Delete Imgur | Removes immediate access on this iPhone. | Loses saved albums and can break the ability to view images linked from other apps at all. |
| Screen Time app limit | Basic limits and awareness. | You can choose Ignore Limit, especially when the app opened involuntarily via a link. |
| Fella | Blocking Imgur by default, whether opened directly or through a link. | Built for one 5-minute emergency unlock per session, not open-ended access. |
A dedicated blocker is useful when Imgur keeps opening as a side effect of browsing somewhere else, not by choice. A default-off rule doesn't care how you arrived, tapped from the Home Screen or launched by a link, the app stays unavailable either way. If you are still choosing a tool, see our iPhone app-blocking options.
With Fella, add Imgur to the apps you want blocked. It stays unavailable by default while the apps you did not select remain accessible.
Use the emergency unlock only for a practical need. Each blocking session includes one 5-minute emergency unlock, enough time to view the one image you actually followed a link for. When the five minutes end, Imgur locks again automatically.
That is the trade-off. Fella is for stronger friction, not flexible schedules, content filtering, or a way to view one linked image while staying blocked from the front page.
People who follow a link into Imgur and end up browsing far beyond the original image. If a single click regularly turns into a scroll session, that's the pattern Fella is built to interrupt.
People who still need to view images linked from other conversations. The emergency unlock gives you a window to see the one image you clicked for without leaving Imgur open and reachable all day.
People who've already tried app limits. If "Ignore Limit" became a habit of its own, a harder default is the next step.
Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for scheduled hours, or a focused app blocker like Fella to keep Imgur blocked by default with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
No. Fella blocks access to the app on your iPhone. Your account and saved images are untouched, and you can still reach them during your one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
It depends on how the link opens. If tapping an image link launches the Imgur app, blocking Imgur restricts it. If the image loads inside another app's own browser view instead, that's a separate surface Fella's app-level block doesn't cover.
Yes. Use App Limits for a daily allowance, or Downtime for scheduled hours. A reached App Limit can be ignored by default. Fella is a narrower blocker with one 5-minute emergency unlock per session.
Yes. You choose which apps Fella blocks. Imgur can be on your list while other apps you rely on stay fully accessible.
No. An app blocker applies to the Imgur app. Imgur in Safari is a separate website boundary, and it needs its own restriction if browsing there is your usual workaround.
Delete the app, then go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Installing Apps and set it to Don't Allow. This blocks new App Store installs system-wide, including Imgur, until you turn it back on with your Screen Time passcode.
