How to block Etsy
on iPhone

Before blocking Etsy, it's worth being honest about what the app is actually doing for you. If you run a shop, respond to buyers, or track active orders, Etsy is a genuine tool you need real access to, and an all-day block could remove more than you want. This page is specifically for the other pattern: searching for one gift or item and losing an hour to browsing that has nothing to do with the original search.

The catalog itself is the trap, not any single trick. Etsy's inventory is enormous and endlessly varied, and related searches and recommendations surface far more than any specific search intended to find. There's always one more interesting listing a scroll away, which makes it easy to keep going well past the point where you found what you were looking for.

1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.

2. Select Etsy. Open the Shopping category, select Etsy, tap Next, choose the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting Etsy on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.

3. Know what happens when the limit is reached. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen, but an App Limit can be ignored by default. That's an easy override here, since browsing feels like ordinary shopping right up until you notice how much time has actually passed.

Check that the App Limit applies to Etsy itself. Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, tap the rule, and confirm Etsy is selected and the days are correct. A category limit can behave differently from a limit on one specific app.

Notice whether you found what you were looking for. If a session regularly continues well after the original item search was answered, that's the browsing pattern worth restricting, separate from actual purchasing intent.

Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This fits well for a work block or evening, hours when browsing is most likely to run long and genuine shop or order needs are less time-sensitive.

Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed can remain available, so review that list if Etsy is not behaving as expected.

Focus Mode is not an Etsy blocker. Focus can silence notifications; it does not stop you opening the app to browse manually.

A dedicated blocker fits when a specific search reliably turns into open-ended browsing. A default-off rule, or a scheduled routine for your specific risk hours, removes the option to drift past the original purpose.
