How to block 9GAG

You can block 9GAG on iPhone without deleting your account. Use Screen Time App Limits for a daily allowance, Downtime for a scheduled block, or a dedicated blocker when 9GAG needs to stay unavailable by default. Each method restricts access differently, so choose the smallest one that closes the loophole you actually have.

9GAG is built entirely around the meme scroll. Unlike an app organized around friends, following, or a specific purpose, its feed is a continuous stream of short, self-contained content with no natural conclusion, which makes it easy to open for "one minute" and lose track of how long you've actually been scrolling.

1. Open Settings, then tap Screen Time. If needed, turn on App & Website Activity. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.

2. Select 9GAG. Open the Entertainment or Social Networking category, select 9GAG, tap Next, choose the daily allowance, then tap Done. Selecting 9GAG on its own avoids sharing a limit with other apps you still need.

3. Know what happens when the limit is reached. iPhone shows a Screen Time limit screen, but an App Limit can be ignored by default. That's an easy override to dismiss on a quick-hit meme feed, since each individual post takes seconds and never feels like the reason you're running late.

Check that the App Limit applies to 9GAG itself. Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, tap the rule, and confirm 9GAG is selected and the days are correct. A category limit can behave differently from a limit on one specific app.

Check the workaround you are actually using. Muting notifications or hiding an icon doesn't block 9GAG. Blocking the app also doesn't block 9gag.com in Safari, a separate boundary if browser access is your usual fallback.

Downtime blocks most apps during a scheduled period. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, choose Scheduled, and set the days and hours. This works well for a work block or before bed, exactly when a continuous meme feed with no logical endpoint is most likely to run long.

Turn on Block at Downtime for a real scheduled block. Apple lets Downtime show a reminder by default; with Block at Downtime enabled, restricted apps cannot open during that period. Apps in Always Allowed can remain available, so review that list if 9GAG is not behaving as expected.

Focus Mode is not a 9GAG blocker. Focus can silence notifications and reduce visual cues; it does not stop you opening 9GAG directly.

A dedicated blocker is useful when a quick meme check reliably turns into a much longer scroll.
