A manual session is the fastest path to a present meal. Pick a Quick routine (30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 4 hours) or set a custom duration, then start before you sit down. Fella stores the real end time, applies the shield, and reconciles the manual blocking source when the interval completes. Apple requires a 15-minute minimum for the Device Activity monitoring interval; for shorter saved durations Fella keeps the real earlier end time.
A routine makes the same boundary repeat without remembering. Choose days plus start and end times — for example, weeknights 6:00–9:00 PM or weekends 9:00 AM–8:00 PM — and Fella registers it with Device Activity. iOS runs the monitor extension at the start and end even if the app is not open. Both are the same blocking mechanism applied to a different window. There is no special family mode with different rules. Family time uses Fella's standard sessions and routines, just pointed at the distracting apps that interrupt time together. Block the feed, keep the family thread. Most family time needs Phone, Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Photos, Camera, Maps, or a shared list app. Leave those unselected and they remain available. Block the social, video, news, shopping, dating, and game apps that usually extend beyond a quick glance.
You decide how narrow the allowance is. If evenings should still allow a quick recipe lookup, leave the browser unblocked while blocking the apps that usually capture more than a lookup. If even that is a trap, block it too and rely on the single hätäavauksen for the genuine exception.
Calls and messages stay reachable where supported when left unselected. Phone, Messages, and FaceTime remain available where supported when not selected. Evenings after work and school. The hours between arrival home and bedtime often determine whether family time happens at all. A routine like weeknights 6:00–9:00 PM can protect that window automatically without a nightly decision.
Weekends, outings, and visits. Grandparents visiting, a park trip, or a birthday does not need a new setup each time. Start a manual session when you leave, or set a weekend routine (for example, Saturday–Sunday 9:00 AM–8:00 PM) that repeats on the days you choose.
Conversations where a glance breaks the thread. Homework help, bedtime talk, or catching up after a day apart are conversations where a quick check signals divided attention. A timed session that covers the conversation keeps the distracting apps unavailable while Phone and Messages remain reachable for true needs.
